Bethesda House - Kennebunk, ME Building Designs for Affordable Housing Units

Bethesda House is a planned neighborhood that provides affordable housing with a mixture of townhouses and apartment buildings totaling 41 individual 2-3 bedroom residential units. All first floor apartment units meet ADA requirements. A community building with offices, a gathering space and laundry is also provided. This was a Maine State Housing Authority funded project, so all building design followed MSHA Guidelines and Green Standards. All of the buildings were designed and detailed to be energy efficient. Some of these practices include: Dense packed Cellulose insulation for all walls and ceiling cavities was used for maximum insulation which will provide a high R-Value and limited air infiltration, cement board siding with MiraTec trim was used for all exterior applications, triple glazed windows with thermally separated frames were used at all windows locations, blower door tests and building commissioning were all part of the specified requirements to ensure that the building is sufficiently sealed and the mechanical systems were working properly.
